The Tathagata Dream which consists of eight independent pieces,is a first unaccompanied Erhu divertimento in China written by Mr.Liu Wenjin in 1997.It is the first time that Erhu is used as a medium to disseminate Buddhist ideas.Zen is one of the sects with the Chinese characteristics most for Buddhism.It advocates "epiphany" and requires people to understand their own Buddha nature to be a Buddha,so it is called "Buddha-nature Sect".The Zen ideology studied in this paper refers to the thinking with the Chinese characteristics that blends with the traditionally Chinese culture in Tang Dynasty." Shi—Kuake" is the seventh work in the divertimento Tathagata Dream.This thesis focuses on the Zen thought elements to explore the music thinking in the works.The thesis contains four parts: the first part gives a brief overview of Zen thought;the second part generally introduces and analyzes the trend and frame to the work of Shi—Kuake;the third part interprets the music thought of the works through "Zen Mind","Zen Enlightenment" and "Zen Realm" in the performance;the fourth part elaborates how the Zen elements enlightens the author for performing Erhu.
