A Report On Simulation Interpretation Of President Xi Jinping’s Keynote Speech At The Opening Ceremony Of The First China International Import Expo

The author selects President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the First China International Import Expo(hereinafter referred to as “the Expo”)as the original material of interpretation,and carry out a simulation consecutive interpretation.This essay has been completed on the basis of this interpretation practice.The study reviews the process of this interpretation practice,focuses on the translation of the Chinese idioms,four-character expression and Xi’s style language,discusses the problems in the simulation interpretation process,and explores corresponding translation approaches and strategies,which might be applied in conducting diplomatic publicizing texts interpretation.The study finds out that when interpreting Chinese proverbs,free translation can be adopted as a major effective strategy to ensure the main idea of the proverb is conveyed,then,on this basis,the language style of the origin speech should be reproduced as much as possible.When interpreting the four-character expression,the interpreter should go above and beyond the original structure and focuses on interpreting its intended meaning.When encountering a long and complex Chinese sentences,which is relatively loose in structure,the interpreter should work on maintaining the structure of Chinese sentences.In Chinese,the subject of long sentences may sometimes change,and it can even be vague,the interpreter should pay close to attention to the subject.Some of the major problems coming out in this simulation interpretation include unnecessary pauses and fillers,which makes the interpretation sound not smooth or clean enough.To solve such problems,the essay concludes in suggesting interpreters slowing down their speed appropriately,which is good in leaving them time for thinking,and ensuring the fluency and coherence of interpretation.
