The famous Chinese medical masterpiece Huangdi Neijing is composed of Essential Questions and Miraculous Pivot. The content of Essential Questions refers to some basic questions such as the relationship between heart and five elements. The source text of this interpretation practice comes from an interview named "Discussing Essential Questions in Guoxuetang Program".Professor Xu Wenbing, the owner of Houpu Chinese Medicine Hall, interprets Essential Questions for audience. In this report, cultural connotative expressions refer to expressions with Chinese ancient civilization, including terms representing world view, outlook of life and philosophy of Chinese people as well as terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s not an easy job in translation. In addition, the host and the guest have a large thinking span and a high information density during the conversation, which are accompanied by a lot of illocutionary points.Besides, considering the requirements of simultaneous interpretation, the difficulties can be classified into three categories:1)difficulty in interpreting cultural connotation with expressive function;2)difficulty in interpreting cultural connotation with directive function;3)difficulty in interpreting cultural connotation with emotional expression representative function. In light of Speech Act Theory, three types of coping tactics of interpreting are proposed as follows.Firstly, tactics of weakening and compensation are adopted to cope with difficulties in interpreting expressions with cultural connotation with expressive function.Secondly, tactics of adaptation and compensation are employed to cope with difficulties in interpreting expressions with cultural connotation with directives function.Thirdly, tactics of omission and paraphrasing are adopted to cope with difficulties in interpreting expressions with cultural connotation with representative function. It is hoped that this report would provide reference for fellow interpreters in similar situation.
