The original EST material of the interpretation project: the third session of 2021 European Artificial Intelligence Forum: AI and Health Care elicits a widely discussed topic of the current and post-pandemic era.The above panel discussion,an EST discourse of complex long sentences,at high speed with highly-dense information of passive forms in multitude, triggered non-fluencies in its encoding and producing throughout the course of simulated SI.These passive-form-based non-fluencies,to be more exact, include: 1)non-fluencies caused by agentful passive in SI;2)non-fluencies caused by agentless passive in SI;3)non-fluencies caused by passive nexus in SI.Passive form production in SI project poses an intensive challenge cognitively on the interpreter in terms of sense unit retrieval in fleeting lapse out of the E-C discrepant repertoire of active and passive voices.Non-fluencies thus occur as a predictable consequence. In light of the “deverbalization” hypothesis of the interpretive theory, this report tackles the non-fluencies in producing passive forms in SI.The coping tactics include: 1)simplifying information structure;2)inductive generalization;3)patient postposition;4)fusion;5)lengthening the EarVoice Span;6)semantic compression. This simulated E-C SI report demonstrates that the efficient allocation of efforts by the interpreter is an essential step to shorten the time lag between SL and TL as well as to reduce the non-fluencies in passive forms SI.Based on “deverbalization” from the perspective of the Interpretative theory, the interpreter can adopt coping tactics mentioned before to improve the fluency and efficiency of passive forms producing, while ensuring natural and idiomatic discourse to achieve cross-language communication.Besides, this report rises interpreters’ awareness of the cognitive process of passive forms producing in SI and throws light on similar online EST conference interpretation. |
