| Taking eighty-one typical monosyllabic adjectives such as “bai(白),cha(差),chang(长),cuo(错)”from The Graded Chinese Syllables,Characters and Words for the Application of Teaching Chinese to the Speakers of Other Languages(2010)as examples,this paper makes a quantitative analysis of the constrouction“NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives based on the data retrieved from the corpus.Over 50% monosyllabic adjectives observed can occur in the construction,but the number construction tokens with different adjectives and their syntactic independency are very different.And the nominal characteristics of the monosyllabic adjectives are diversified.The paper also undertakes the contrast analyses of the construction of “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives and some other relevant constructions(“NP de(的)A” with disyllabic adjectives and “NP de(的)V” with monosyllabic verb”)from the perspective of cognitive linguistics.This paper is divided into five parts:The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the purpose and significance of this topic,summarizing the previous research results and putting forward the existing research problems to be solved.It also introduces the theory and methods of the study and the source of corpus.The second chapter mainly analyzes the composition and distribution of “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives.It also interprets syntactic independency of the construction according to its uses in discourse.The third chapter analyzes the syntactic functions of monosyllabic adjectives,concluding that monosyllabic adjectives of “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives are heterogeneous and the nominal characteristics of them are quite diversified.The fourth chapter analyzes the relevant constructions of “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives.The number of “NP de(的)A” with disyllabic adjectives are more than “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives,which is related to the disyllabic effect and prosody.The similarities and differences of “NP de(的)A” with monosyllabic adjectives and “NP de(的)V” with disyllabic verbs are also studied.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the main points of the paper. |
