The monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morphemes are relatively special in the species of synonyms. Their similarities and differences involve in aspects of phonetics, grammar and vocabulary. The study of them will enhance the research of modern Chinese in various dimensions, and foster the development of study of Chinese noumenon. This kind of synonyms are also the key point as well as difficult point, especially in the learning and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The study, therefore, has an applied value to some extent for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Some scholars currently have studied this kind of synonyms according to the difference of species. The study of adjective, however ,is scarce. In addition, the study generally focuses on the aspect of grammar. Consequently, it lacks for comprehensive observance and comparison. The paper, therefore, tries to compare the meaning of the synonym in the synchronic level, considering the study of grammar in the meantime and providing statistics and explanation for the synonyms. It will concentrate on observance to 185 pairs of monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morphemes, which are chosen from HSK Vocabulary for Chinese Capacity and Character Outline in different classes. Moreover, these synonyms have co-explained relationship in Modern Chinese Dictionary. The paper describes them in different aspects and intends to give explanation to some phenomena. The paper consists of five chapters apart from preface and generalization. In the first chapter, I have a probe for monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morpheme. I try to find their corresponding relationship in form and have a clear understanding of complexity of corresponding form and the similar meaning. In the second chapter, I have consideration to the relationship of meaning between the two morphemes in disyllabic-syllable adjectives and the main method with which the monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective constitute synonyms. The observance reveals that two morphemes in disyllabic- adjectives reflect the similar meaning. Furthermore, the reduplication of the similar meaning is the commonest way to constitute synonyms for monosyllabic and disyllabic words. From the third chapter to fifth chapter, the paper has comparative studies for the monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morpheme. The third chapter is comparative study for the meaning of the monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morpheme. My chief purpose here is to probe their difference between their objective and subjective meaning. And the former contains two aspects: characteristics and suited object (the collaboration of words)The fourth chapter is comparison in reduplication for the monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morpheme.I probe their different capabilities for reduplication and give corresponding explanation. The fifth chapter is comparison in syntax function for the monosyllabic-adjective and corresponding disyllabic-adjective with the same morpheme. I have a delicate description when they serve as elements in sentences and give corresponding theoretical explanation on the basis of description.
