A Report On The Translation Of Fuding White Tea In Cultural History Of Fuding City

This dissertation is a report on the translation of the second chapter of the eleventh volume of Cultural History of Fuding City,14370 words in total.The white tea in recently years has increased market value and expanded export volumes.Following Anxi Tieguanyin oolong tea,Fuding white tea has become a new favorite Fujian tea.The second chapter of the eleventh volume of Cultural History of Fuding City depicts the historical background,geographical conditions and cultural environment of Fuding white tea.Tea business in Fuding city and relevant folk stories have fully reflected the value of traditional Fujian white tea culture,thus making it valuable translation of informative text.This dissertation consists of the translation report,the source text in Chinese and the translated English text.Guided by the Reception Aesthetics,the dissertation conducts a primary analysis of Fuding white tea and the English translation of its culture by focusing on the translation of words,sentences and discourses.Hopefully,it can set an example for other English translations of Chinese tea and tea culture.The report witnessed the rationality and feasibility of the guidance of Reception Aesthetics on the C-E translation of Fuding white tea and its culture connotation.This source text mainly belongs to informative text,focusing on dissemination of information and reflection of objective facts;therefore,the translation of this text requires the consistency of its original content.The translator should also consider the acceptability of the translation readers and the usage of the target language on the process of translation.Yet,there are still many aspects for improvement in this report.On one hand,the typical examples are selected from the second chapter of the eleventh volume of Cultural History of Fuding City;on the other hand,the translation text is not able to transmit the essence of the original text vividly as a result of the author's deep-rooted Chinglish and Chinese thinking.The author is supposed to learn from the experience so as to improve his translation in the future.
