Improving English Reading Ability For Senior High School Students From The Perspective Of English Core Literacy

As the most effective and important language input for students,English reading plays a very important role in the process of students' English learning.English reading ability refers to the ability of associating,guessing,and extracting key information in the brain to solve reading problems.Higher English reading ability can improve students' English learning competence and enhance students' self-learning competence to a certain extent.Research showed that in the actual teaching process,many students have difficulties in reading English articles.For example,lack of vocabulary knowledge and relevant background culture information;lack of necessary reading strategies;Besides,their language ability is limited and so on.These problems have seriously affected students' reading ability,as well as English teaching effect.English core literacy puts forward new requirements for students' reading ability in basic education in China.It is embodied in four aspects: language competence,cultural character,thinking quality and learning competence.Therefore,it is imperative to study the strategies to improve students' reading ability by combining the specific objectives of the English core literacy.In order to study the effective strategies of improving high school students' English reading ability,a questionnaire survey was conducted for the students of Hanzhong High School.By summarizing the results of the questionnaire,it showed there are three main factors that affect the effective reading of students.First,students' limited English knowledge and poor English skills.Second,students lack English reading strategies.Third,students ignore the accumulation of cultural background knowledge.In response to these problems,by doing three-round action research,it is found that combining core literacy into English teaching,Students' English reading ability can be improved.The first round of action research is to implement contextual teaching and strengthen students' language competence.By creating a real context in reading,students canbuild their own knowledge systems and improve their language competence.The second round of action research is based on the first round of action research,focusing on training reading strategies.Through targeted training,students can form a good meta-cognition,their thinking quality and learning competence are improved.The third round of action research is based on the second round of action research,the goal is build a background pattern,which can effectively help students to mobilize relevant knowledge to solve problems in the reading process.In these ways,students' reading ability can also be improved.In order to help students improve their reading ability,teachers are proposed to grasp some strategies,such as contextual guidance strategies;penetration of reading strategies;cultural development strategies;and timely feedback strategies.Students themselves can also do something.For example,they should try to overcome reading obstacle,strengthen background knowledge,improve their analyzing ability.The founding of this study is valuable reference for educators and other researchers.
