The aim of this thesis is to explore the senior high school students`cognitive processing mechanism of English lexical inferencing and the application effects of strategy training in senior English teaching.This study,chiefly,probs following 3aspects:before and after the training,what are the subjects`strategy awareness differences by using morphemes analysis method to infer the meaning of new word;dealing with three difficulty levels inferecing tasks,what are the differences about subjects`reasoning accuracy,total processing time?speed?,the reaction time of encoding new words,the reaction time of new words decision-making between lower lexical group and higher lexical group when they are guessing new words in the same level by morphemes analysis method,and what are the differences about their early and late stages of information processing and psychological cognitive loads.This paper is an exploratory empirical study.The group of senior three students who participate in pretest,the three-week training and post-test are the main study subjects.In this study,reaction time,eye-tracking technique were combined with interview,which attempt to discover both phenomena and problems presented by quantitative research method and the causes and essences emerged form qualitative research method.The research discovery`s results:After English lexical inferecing strategy training,?1?The division of the subjects`focus areas of morphology and the AOI`s boundaries of each roots and affixes appear to overlap,and higher vocabulary group is more able to recognize variations of the known roots and affixes;?2?The inferecing accuracy of new words of both lower and higher level group are improved,the higher group`s accuracy is higher and it has differences between level D2 and D3;?3?The total processing time of two groups are prolonged and their time is similar;?4?The two groups`reaction time of encoding new words are prolonged and there are differences in D3 level?identification of root and affixes variations?;?5?The two groups`reaction time of new words decision-making are prolonged and the differences of both two groups in D1?D1=basic words+roots and affixes?level are exist;?6?In the early stage of cognitive processing,the first fixation time is reduced in both groups.However,the higher lexical group has differences in the completion of D1,D2 level tasks,and then it`s first fixation time is reduced more;?7?In the late stage of cognitive processing,the total fixation time of higher lexical group is prolonged in all three different levels.The total fixation time of lower lexical group is prolonged in D2 and D3 levels and it`s shorter in D1 level.Both two groups have differences among D1,D2,D3 levels;?8?The mean pupil diameters of two groups are reduced,their psychological cognitive load are small and the processing efficiency are developed to speed up.The strategy training effect is significant in the group with high vocabulary level.The research conclusions:?1?after the training of English lexical inferencing strategy,subjects have essential strategy awareness,subjects with higher lexical proficiency are more likely to recognize variations of known root and affixes;?2?the total processing time of the two groups are longer,and their accuracy are increased.The subjects with a higher lexical level are able to complete inferecing tasks better;?3?the training of English lexical inferecing strategy can increase the thinking process of encoding and storing new words,especially roots and affixes variation;?4?English lexical inferecing strategy can increase the working process of early word meaning access between D1 and D2 levels;?5?in the late cognitive process,both two groups have word meaning understanding.In addition,the group with lower lexical competence is more likely to produced word meaning access in the late cognitive process;?6?the mean pupil diameter of two groups are smaller,so their psychological cognitive loads are smaller and processing efficiency are higher.We could see that the teaching and training of English lexical inferecing strategy has a more significant effect on the group with higher lexical level.
