| Reading ability,as a major aim of the second language teaching,has attached great importance to its training.The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 edition,2020revision)requires students to be able to infer meaning of unknown words based on contextual clues or non-text information to improve reading ability.Therefore,it is particularly important to instruct students how to use appropriate lexical inferencing strategies to improve the reading ability.On the basis of the Minimalist Hypothesis Model and Framework for Construction,this study adopts empirical research methods to explore the effects of lexical inferencing strategies training on the English reading ability.Specifically,two research questions are involved as follows:(1)What are the effects of lexical inferencing strategies training on senior high school students’ English reading strategies?(2)What are the effects of lexical inferencing strategies training on senior high school students’ English reading comprehension?This research adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods.The whole experiment has lasted 16 weeks including the reading test,questionnaires and interviews.The research subject are 61 students of senior three in a senior high school in Yueyang.The experimental data is statistically analyzed through SPSS23.0.The findings are as follows:(1)Lexical inferencing strategies training can improve students’ English reading ability.Most students are able to highly use cognitive strategies,metacognitive strategies and social emotional strategies to process different reading text information,enhance reading confidence,increase reading interest and improve reading strategy ability.(2)Lexical inferencing strategies training has a significant impact on high school students’ English reading comprehension ability.It plays an important role in constructing meaningful and coherent textual representations for readers.Students can match word forms with appropriate knowledge concepts,build knowledge networks in the context,and then understand the text to improve reading comprehension ability.This research has demonstrated that lexical inferencing strategies training is of effectiveness and feasibility. |
