Reading plays a dominant role in senior English teaching.Although most English teachers have realized the importance of cultivating and improving students' reading ability,the single teaching form and means of current English reading hamper students' enthusiasm in learning English and make them lose confidence in learning English reading.The new curriculum reform clearly emphasizes students' initiative,student-centered concept and the cultivation of students' cooperation spirit and innovative spirit.Therefore,it is imperative to use effective teaching methods in order to change the current situation of English reading.The author finds that Jigsaw method,an effective teaching method in cooperative learning,emphasizes the multi-dimensional cooperation relationship between students and books,students and teachers,students and students to learn reading materials and it can design teaching tasks according to students' different situations.In addition,during the senior English teaching process of Jigsaw method,students learn tasks independently,and discuss with partners.Then each student has the opportunity to act as a small teacher to teach the reading contents what they are responsible for,and finally they complete the reading contents together.The whole senior English teaching process embodies that students become masters of learning.This is precisely accordant with the concept of “student-oriented” in the new curriculum standard.Based on this,the author attempts to apply the Jigsaw method into the English reading teaching in senior high school and this study mainly researches on the following issues:1.How do students perform in English reading class under the background of senior high school English reading teaching?2.How to apply the Jigsaw method into English reading teaching?3.How does the Jigsaw method affect senior high school students English reading? In which aspect?In order to answer the above questions,the author conducts a three-month empirical study on 54 students from Class 6,Grade 1,a school in Wanzhou District,Chongqing through the methods of questionnaire,interview and test.The author adopted the SPSS 17.0 and Excel to analyze the data of questionnaire and test scores.What's more,the interview results weresummarized and sorted out.The main findings are as follows: firstly,the main manifestations of students in English reading class are their low participation and motivation.Secondly,the Jigsaw method can upgrade the participation and motivation of students as well as improve students' awareness of cooperation and communicative competence in English reading class.Finally,the Jigsaw method can improve students' English reading grades and English comprehensive applied ability.All in all,the study shows that the Jigsaw method has positive effect on students' English reading.Based on the analysis of the experimental results,the paper has some shortcomings.Due to the short research time and the small sample size of the research objects,there will be deviations inevitably in the results of the study,which needs more in-depth researches on the Jigsaw method.
