The Jigsaw teaching method,which is one of teaching method in cooperative learning,is a kind of method which divides students into home groups as well as expert groups.At the same time,the teaching material is also divided into several tasks to distribute students.And the students have the same tasks will get together to form the expert group to discuss their tasks.After dealing with their tasks the expert group go back to their home group to teach their group members in turn.This study mainly explores the impact of Jigsaw on students' English reading achievements and the change of their attitude toward English reading after using the Jigsaw teaching method.This research lasted for two months from September 10 th,2017 to November 10 th,2017.The research subjects are two parallel classes in Qin'an NO.5 middle school.There are 60 students in each class and they are in senior one,their English reading ability is at the same level.The two classes are randomly selected and one of the experimental class in which the Jigsaw teaching method was used while the other class is control class in which the teacher-centred teaching method was used.All the teaching activities took place within the 40-minute English reading class and the teaching material of the two class is the same---New Senior English for China Student's(Book 1& Book 2)published by People's Education Press(2013)with the same teaching equipment.In order to investigate the change of students' English reading achievements,the author designed a pretest and a post-test.As for the change of students' attitude toward English reading,the author sent out the questionnaire before and after the experiment in both experimental class as well as the control class.The author collected all the data of the questionnaires and the test and the SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze the data.The finding revealed that the Jigsaw teaching method can effectively improve students English reading achievements significantly compared with the traditional teacher-centred teaching method.At the same time,after using the Jigsaw teaching method,the author found out that in experimental class,students' attitude toward English reading tend to have a positive change while the control class have no big improvement.In addition,the author put forward some teaching implications as well as suggestions,meanwhile the author proposed limitations of the study and wish all of these limitations can be useful for the further studies.
