As a teaching method of cooperative learning,the jigsaw method emphasizes cooperation in groups and creates an information gap between students.That enables all the students to have maximum participation in the class.Specifically,in the jigsaw class,students are encouraged to express themselves by giving them opportunities to talk about their understanding of the text,which is conducive to the promotion of cooperation among students.Although the jigsaw method has been researched by some researchers over the past few decades,their research has the limitation of mainly focusing on English reading teaching in junior high schools.Thus,this thesis discusses and studies the application of the jigsaw method in senior high schools so as to have a study about whether the jigsaw method influences students’ English reading achievements and other factors.According to the above information,the research questions in this thesis focus on three points:First,what influence does teachers’ teaching methods have on students’ learning ways respectively before and after the experiment?Second,what kind of change will be brought by the jigsaw method on students’ cooperative consciousness and engagement in English reading class?Third,can the application of the jigsaw method influence students’ academic scores of English reading in senior high school?On the basis of the research questions,the research takes students in class 7 and8 in senior two in Yueqing No.2 high school in Zhejiang province as research subjects and employs tests,questionnaires and interviews as research instruments.Then the author uses the jigsaw method to teach English reading in class 8 which is the experimental class,to find whether the jigsaw method has positive or negative impact on learning and teaching.Through the contrastive analysis of the results of questionnaires,interviews and students’ reading scores in control and experimental class,the author concludes that the jigsaw method has a positive influence on students’ English reading learning.To begin with,senior high school students are interested in a new teaching method---jigsaw method,and they find their learning ways have been gradually changed in the jigsaw class.Moreover,the jigsaw method can ensure engagement and cooperation in the class.Furthermore,the application of the jigsaw method in English reading teaching can improve students’ English reading comprehension scores by encouraging peer assistance and arousing their interest in learning English.However,any research is not perfect so there should be further attention to insufficient research duration and limited research subjects. |
