"Benevolent Monarch" Poems From The Book Of Odes And Monarch Virtue Ideal Of Confucian Pre-Qin

With regard to China ancient society,the "monarch virtue "that a "benevolent monarch" must possess,which is the political standards that heaven judge his regime;In reference to modern society,the virtue of CCP members is the moral fundament of building an upright political trends.There are many poems that related to "benevolent monarch" in The Book of Odes,which played a vital role in educational system of Confucian pre-Qin.This thesis selected the "King Wen" as main subject of study and an entry point,trying to see through the monarch virtue ideal of Confucian pre-Qin.This thesis consists of four chapters;the contents of each chapter are as below:In chapter ?,it summarizes the poems that related the "benevolent monarch" in The Book of Odes.With the standards of hierarchy,two types of poems are categorized:"emperor"and "dukes".Citing the representative statements from successive dynasties,it outlines the themes of relative poems.In chapter ?,it elaborates the "King Wen" in The Book of Odes and his figure-shaping.Above all,it thoroughly compiles the poems about King Wen,and sum up the themes accordingly,sketching a glory image of King Wen that presented in The Book of Odes in this context.Further to the second chapter,chapter ? discourses the other Confucian classics besides The Book of Odes,which image-building of King Wen.It mainly reference to,The Analects of Confucius","the Mencius" and "Xun Zi",illustrating the apotheosis of benevolent monarch and ideal of monarch virtue in minds of three representatives of Confucianism pre-Qin—Confucius,Mencius and Xun Zi.As a summation,chapter ? discusses the generating and nature of The Book of Odes,analyzing the role it played in the academic territory of Confucianism and educational system throughout the Zhou dynasty.Furthermore,it explores the special significance of benevolent monarch poems for elucidating of Confucianism's political aspiration in pre-Qin.In conclusion,basing on the specific type of poems,this thesis attempting to reveal the deep ideological and political implication,simply construct the related context and background problems,hoping to elucidate another cultural and ideological value of The Book of Odes.
