In the Great Depression Trilogy,E.L.Doctorow observes the city, nature and family through the perspectives of children, and tells the stories of their searching and returning home in the difficult years. The landscape description and the efforts to find homes are important contents of the three films' landscape narrative. The landscape helps people to know about America and reflect on themselves. All three landscapes contain the efforts of author to find home.People finally return to their homes in cities or nature. These happy families are the symbols of the integration of American and the second home of Jewish people. What the author really yearns for is that people can become families in national life. The author wants to interpret the ideal spirit of home.Different from traditional Jews, the author believes that under the influence of free, the Jewish nation should respect the fine tradition and abandon the tradition that restrains thought. The United States needs to accept the Jewish nation to achieve a great nation. Moreover,in the integrated homeland, the author confirms his pursuits and identities, and returns to the peaceful spiritual homeland. The home conceived by author is a utopian home.During the great depression, the author's desire to return home becomes more urgent, but the way back home is also more difficult. But he always holds the hope of realizing his dream and believes that he is on his way home.Doctorow inspires us to find the ideal home and gives us positive power to face sufferings.
