Eco-translatology is an interdisciplinary translation theory.According to this theory, translation is a translator-oriented practical activity in which the translator should make selections and adaptations from an ecological perspective. In the process of translation, translators should make selective adaptation and adaptive selection from three dimensions to accomplish the transformation of linguistic, communicative and cultural intention. This theory provides a new perspective for translation studies.Based on this theoretical perspective, this report describes the author’s experience in translating Haier Is a Sea.It first introduces the background information about the translation task, the characteristics of the original text and how the translator prepared for accomplishing the translation task. Then it introduces the basic concepts and the three dimensions involved in the theory of Eco-translatology,together with the applications of this theory in previous studies.By focusing on the translation of culture-loaded terms in the original text, this report describes the translating process that the translator went through under the guidance of the theory of Eco-translatology,and how she tackled the obstacles and difficulties with different translation strategies by taking the three dimensions into consideration. This report finally provides the translator’s reflections on her own translation experience, and puts forward some suggestions for the translation of culture-loaded terms under the guidance of the theory of Eco-translatology in the future.
