As a new form of art in China,Mansu can be traced back to the ancient terracotta warriors.From Han and Tang dynasties? pottery figurines to Song dynasty?s luohan and general status,all can be regarded as Mansu-like sculptures.Mansu comes from the combination of cartoon and sculpture,which embodies the connection between traditional craft and modern aesthetics.The Paper from two dimensions to study the Mansu by combining comparative study and fieldwork to tease the development of Chinese traditional pottery and clay sculpture as well as the aesthetic implication and generation mechanism of modern creative design.More specifically,the theme of Mansu belongs to the realism which keeping pace with the times,closing to life and down to earth.Mansu?s craftsmanship has the same strain with traditional folk art,which showing the beauty of hand sculpturing.The subject of Mansu is intent on warning people with the light comedy?s style of humor.The appearance of Mansu is closely related to the era of picture-reading,the trend of China intangible cultural protection and the cultural creativity.The paper consists of six chapters.The introduction part includes the background and significance of the topic selection,concept definition,research review,research method,innovation and deficiency.The first chapter is about the Mansu?s historical origin,the status quo,the geographical distribution and the representative characters.The second chapter analyzes the theme of Mansu,including famous people,ordinary people and folk customs.In the third chapter,the paper analyzes Mansu?s characteristics of the craftsmanship from the aspects of quality,shape and color based on several classic cases.In the fourth chapter,we compare different works among the traditional clay,cartoon and different Mansu works.In the fifth chapter,we explore the mechanism of generation of Mansu from time and space factor,regional factor,and personal factor.In the conclusion part,we dialectic analyze Mansu?s controversy and make some suggestion for the further development of Mansu.
