In daily communication,it's unavoidable for the speaker to have some hesitations including pauses, repetition, and correction. Thus, disfluencies do occur frequently during the speech delivery process.Hesitation has long been studied by scholars like Weber and Thiery, but the previous studies mainly focus on hesitation in simultaneous interpreting.(Wang S X 2009)This report is aimed at studying on hesitation in escort interpreting and analyzing some of the reasons that caused such phenomenon by mainly applying the Effort models of interpreting formulated by Gile. Also, the author tries to propose some tactics based on the analysis. This report is based on the author's escort interpreting practice about an interview in Renolit Group,a leading manufacturer of high-quality plastic products in Guangzhou. The aim of this interview is to collect the opinions about the management of the organization from managers of different departments in this company.Cases used in this report are mainly from the conversations between the CEO and the manager from production department and H.R department.By analyzing and comparing the cases, this report described the times hesitations occurred then explained the reasons for that and came up with some strategies: enhancing language proficiency, especially bilingual competence, improving the ability to read notes, and polishing up the skills of information automatic processing. This report noticed that hesitation of the interpreter in this interpreting practice was mainly caused by source-text complexity of the speaker, cognitive load of the interpreter as well as speed rate of delivery of both the speaker and the interpreter through case study. Therefore, interpreters are required to pay attention to them and apply the corresponding tactics to smooth the delivery in interpreting.
