Legal translation is a high-end service in translation activities.It mainly serves citizens,lawyers,foreign-funded enterprises,import and export companies and other social groups.Legal translation requires interdisciplinary and comprehensive knowledge and high competence,so it is quite difficult to go in for the legal text translation.As one of the main contents of legal linguistics,legal translation study plays a very significant role in the international communications.This report takes the translation of Civil Liability Act 2002 in Western Australia as an example to discuss some problems that should be solved during the translation of legal text.The report can be divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the task description,which mainly introduces features of the source text and significance of the task.The second chapter is the description of the translation process,including preparation,translation process and post-translation.Chapter Three analyzes some basic principles of legal translation,such as principle of faithfulness and accuracy,principle of consistency,principle of clarity and simplicity,principle of standardization of language and principle of legalization of language.The fourth chapter is the main part of this report.Through a large number of case analyses,translator discusses it from three aspects.From the lexical aspect,it is analyzed from five angles including common words with legal meaning,archaic words,alien words,concise and vague words and words with synonyms.From the syntactical aspects,it is analyzed from common legal sentences and typical sentences with legal terms.From the textual aspects,it is analyzed from translation shifts and translation devices using in the legal discourse.The fifth chapter is the last chapter of the report,which mainly summarizes the translation practice.Firstly,the author enumerates the basic translation problems and draws the solutions to these problems in legal translation.Secondly,the author sets forth the inspiration and prospect for the future study and work.Through the whole translation practice,the author aims to evoke some helpful ideas for the future legal translation engagers and researchers concerned. |
