A Study On MTI Translation Theses Of GDUFS(2013-2017)

With the development of MTI professional degree education,the number of students of master of translation and interpreting is growing year by year,and there are over 230 universities and colleges establishing master of translation and interpreting program.Since the establishment of master of translation and interpreting in 2007,much meaningful research has been done on MTI education.GDUFS was among the first batch of 15 universities with accreditation enrolling MTI students,it possesses abundant resources in MTI education and has eight batches of graduates,which makes it possible to reflect some aspects of MTI education in China.There are over 230 universities and colleges setting master of translation,as a necessary half of Master of Translation and Interpreting,master of translation can reflect many aspects of the education of master of translation and interpreting to a large extent.Based on the analysis of 253 theses of mater of translation of School of Interpreting and Translation of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies,this paper intends to reveal the status quo of master of translation theses of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies by answering the following four questions: 1.What are the characteristics of theses of master of translation when it comes to the choice of thesis models? 2.What are the characteristics of theses of master of translation when it comes to text types? 3.What are the characteristics of theses of master of translation when it comes to thesis title writing? 4.What are the characteristics of theses of master of translation when it comes to what problems they tended to solve?The results of the research are as follows: 1.The choice of writing models of theses of master of translation is too much focused on translation practice report,and there are not many candidates choosing the other four writing models.2.The choice of text types of theses of master of translation is over focused on literary texts,which does not meet the situation that there are four divisions(business translation,legal translation,media translation and localization translation)of master of translation andeach division has almost the same number of students.Apart from legal translation,the number of theses of each text type of the other three divisions is pretty less than the number of students of the three divisions.3.Almost all English titles are translated from Chinese titles,and more than a half of MT thesis titles are nouns phrases,not many of them are compound titles.4.MT theses tended to discussed and tried to solve problems of translation in macro level and comprehensive level.
