A Survey Report On MTI Interpreting Theses Of GDUFS

Master of Translation and Interpreting(MTI)was approved to setup by Department of Degree Management & Postgraduate Education(Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee)on March 2007.Guangdong University of Foreign Studies(GDUFS)was among the first 15 universities with accreditation by Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee for enrolling MTI students.In 2007,Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was authorized to confer master degree and doctor degree of Translation Studies,under the first-grade discipline of Foreign Languages and Literatures(Zhong Weihe,2012:4).A notification was issued with few detailed description of different MTI thesis by Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee when MTI was set up,but its simple description was far less than enough to explain to MTI students to complete their MTI thesis.MTI thesis is not only an important measurement of MTI knowledge structure and academic achievement of degree applicant,but also a reflection of teaching quality and effectiveness.Only the students who passed the course examinations and accomplished the thesis oral defense was qualified to apply for MTI degree.During 2011 and 2012,some researchers suggested that,on the basis of thesis models in guidance documents(program report,experiment report and academic paper),the model of MTI theses can be revised to experiment report,academic paper,internship report of key positions,translation/ interpreting practice report and survey report.These valuable suggestions contributed to the standardization of MTI thesis models.But those suggestions are theoretical,a survey on the theses exploring the feasibility of those suggestions is needed.A survey on the MTI theses will be conducted to analyze the changes and trends in thesis model,languages,research topic,and other aspects.In this paper,the author is trying to answer the following question:What is the changes and trends in language,thesis model,research subjects and term frequency of MTI interpreting theses in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies(GDUFS)from 2010 to 2015?With analysis of the survey research on MTI interpreting theses of GDUFS and discussion on the problems and the solutions for improvement,this paper aims to deepen the understanding of current state of MTI theses.
