This text is a translation summary of the English translation project pertaining to the thesis on cultural industries in ethnic monority regions. Peter Newmark, a famous English translation theorist. His theories including text-categories and text-types as well as the translation methods of semantic translation and communicative translation play an important role in guiding this translation of practice. Meanwhile, he put forward mainly three functions of texts, namely, expressive function, informative function and vocative function, and thought that there is no text with just one text function, and almost all texts have more than one function. He claimed that Semantic translation is used for ’expressive’ texts, communicative for ’informative’ and ’vocative’ texts. The text of this translation project is thesis. From the respect of text-types, it mainly belongs to the informative text, but also has expressive and vocative texts. Its content involves in economy, politics and culture. So how to better translate this kind of text under the guidance of Newmark’s translation methods of semantic translation and communicative translation is the key and difficult point of this translation practice. On the hand, the translator should guarantee the accuracy, preciseness and specialization of the translated texts as thesis, and deliver the ideas and thoughts of the author. On the other hand, based on the foundation of accuracy, the translator should make the translated texts more easy-understanding and acceptable under the application of translation techniques and expressing methods.Guided by his translation theories, this translation report aims at providing easy-understanding and acceptable versions for readers both at home and abroad, and better showcasing the characteristics of cultures and cultural industries and their development strategies in China’s ethnic minority areas by means of exploring how to translate in English the two theses on China’s ethnic cultural industries characterized by informative, expressive and vocative features, and analyzing and concluding the guiding effects of Newmark’s theories on academic theses. In this translation report, the translator mainly uses two academic study methods: literature research method and statistical analysis. Through critical review of literatures and data analysis, the translator tries to find out the similarities and differences between Chinese and English on the aspects of structures and semantics of the morphemes, words, sentences and texts, in order to provide reliable data and theoretical basis and support for this translation practice. This translation report discusses centering on some key aspects such as theories of thesis on cultural industries, characteristics of vocabulary and syntax, and techniques of language changes, especially principles and techniques of the translation of terminology with ethnic culture features, in order to improve the translation skills and produce high-quality translated article, to promote more study achievements of experts to be mastered by international scholars, ultimately to further increase studies in this field.
