The English corporate profiles play a significant role in the promotion channel,and C-E translation of corporate profiles has effect on the building of corporate image and strengthening the competitive power.Whereas,the previous researches showed that many Chinese companies still employ literal translation and ignore the different cultural backgrounds of Chinese and English and also the different thinking modes,so the translated version is likely to impede the effective communication,and even it will influence the corporate image.Based on the Adaptation Theory of Verschueren,this thesis selects the corporate profiles of 20 Chinese companies and their corresponding English versions,as well as20 English corporate profiles of foreign companies from 2016 Fortune Global 500 as corpora respectively.The qualitative and quantitative methods are employed in this thesis.Based on the Adaptation Theory,it chooses the two perspectives of adaptation,including the Structural Objects and Contextual Correlates of Adaptability on C-E translation to study,for the two perspectives are the core elements of the Adaptation Theory.In which,language structure includes lexical,syntax and discourse level,the Contextual Correlates consists of the mental,social and physical world of the target readers.According to the study of the two aspects,it demonstrates that there are huge differences among the CCP,EVCCP and FCPE corpora in Structural Objects,besides,it analyzes the similarities between the CCP and FCPE corpora,then explores how the structural objects are adapted to the mental,social and physical world.And it also lists lots of examples to prove that Chinese translators should make adaptation when they do the C-E corporate profiles translation.Lastly,some feasible suggestions are put forward by the author,that is the integration skill to adapt to the Structural Objects,the generalization to adapt to the physical world,and liberal translation is to adapt to the social world.Based on the Adaptation theory,this thesis attempts to make a study on the C-E translation of corporate profiles,and it also actively explores the quality of the translated version of the Chinese corporate profiles.In addition,it puts forward some translation strategies to guide the corporate profiles translation,which enriches the C-E corporate profiles from a new perspective. |
