Abstract/Summary:
With the promotion of world globalization and China's economy, more and more Chinese companies seize this opportunity to participate in the international competition. A corporate profile is a window for readers to know about a company, so its C-E translation influences not only its image, but also its sales and investments. However, most of C-E profiles are translated in poor quality in China. Moreover, there are rare systematic researches on the C-E translation of corporate profiles, most of which are studied from the perspective of Functionalist Translation Theory or Skopos Theory. This thesis adopts Verschueren's Adaptation Theory to make a contrastive analysis of twenty Chinese and English corporate profiles, and proves that there are great differences between them. In addition, in the light of adaptation theory, the author discusses the adaptation to contextual correlates, structural objects and dynamics in the C-E translation of corporate profiles by examining concrete examples. Meanwhile, corresponding translation strategies are offered. In order to prove Adaptation's explanatory power on C-E translation of corporate profiles, a case study is employed which mainly explores C-E translation of Aokang profiles from adaptation to social world, physical world and structural objects, and proposes three strategies which are omission, generalization and integration.By applying Adaptation Theory to the C-E translation of corporate profiles, the author has done active exploration in improving the translation quality of the same texts, and enriched the studies on C-E translation of corporate profiles from a new perspective.
