A Study On Structure In Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony

Messiaen is a contemporary French composer and music theorist with worldwide influence.He is known as the "Musical Master of the 20 th Century" in “The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians”.Whether it is his music theory or music creation,it can be said to be unique.Among them,the most prominent is his only symphony "Turangalila Symphony".There are altogether 10 movements,429 pages of scores and nearly 80 minutes of playing time.Such a grand work necessarily requires a powerful structure.This article takes this symphony as the research object,and combines Meissen’s theoretical system to discover the special structure and structure techniques of the symphony.The main part of this article is divided into three parts: introduction,text and epilogue.The introduction part mainly focuses on domestic and foreign research status and clarifies the research significance of this topic.The main part is composed by four chapters.The first chapter is mainly about the composers and their works.The second and third chapters respectively analyze the ten movements from the theme and rhythm and reflect the structural forces.The last chapter is the integration and summarization of the above analysis,grasping the structure features of the work from an overall perspective,and drawing on its special structure and structure techniques.This article attempts to obtain an objective,novel,and persuasive view from the in-depth study of the structure issue of the Turangalila Symphony.It is hoped that this study will provide some references for the analysis and creation of modern music works,and will contribute to the combination of Messiaen’s music theory system and the concept of Chinese music.
