This report is based on the writer's consecutive interpreting practice in Guangzhou Medical University. This report is aimed to identify how the application of schemas in this consecutive interpreting practice has exerted influence the interpreting strategy and performance.Schema Theory has been a widely-discussed subject ever since the year 1932 when it was launched;the application of schemas in the field of foreign language reading and comprehension has been greatly investigated, yet the great influence by schemas on interpreting just started to attract attention a few years ago, especially on interpreting for a specific purpose. The author observes that the interpreter's interpreting strategies and performance have been influenced and facilitated by schemas.Chapter one is the introduction and it provides the basic framework of the report. The second chapter presents the task description elaborating the actual interpreting process in detail and with the conditions. The third chapter serves as a post-task evaluation to look further into the problems existing in the interpreting and to give a general perception of the merits and imperfections of the practice.Gile's model being referred to,which was modified by P?chhacker and Moser-Mercer,an example was extracted from the interpreting and analyzed;then the self-evaluation was carried out based on Mosermercer's definition on the quality of interpreting.Furthermore, since the interpreter played multiple roles in this interpreting as an interpreter, explainer and research participant, her performance was also evaluated in terms of the fulfillment of her multiple roles. In the fourth chapter,a case study was given, using specific examples and segments from the task, analyses of how schemas can help interpreting were carried out with the combination of previous studies onschemas and interpreting. The last part of this report includes the concluding remarks about the practice, implications and major limitations of this practice report.
