The "Elementary English Curriculum Standards" emphasizes learning from students' interest in learning,life experience and cognitive level,and advocates learning methods of experience,practice,participation,cooperation and communication.Modern foreign language education pays attention to the process of language learning.Students are expected to contact,experience,and understand the real language in context,then learn and use language on this basis.Therefore situational teaching is widely used in English classroom teaching.Based on the principles of constructivism and situational cognition,this study conducted a questionnaire survey of 82 students in 2 classes of a primary school in Chang'an District of Xi'an City.After that,they went into the classroom to learn the application and effect of English situational teaching in primary schools through specific observations.And the correlation between the two was studied.Finally,teachers' interviews were used to analyze the problems existing in the application of situational teaching in primary school English teaching.The results of the study are as follows: 1 The statistical software spss20 was used to calculate the frequency of all questions in the survey questionnaire.After a specific classroom observation,primary school English teachers learned and understood the situational teaching,and they also used some simple situations in the classroom to assist the teaching,and the higher the frequency of various situational teaching in the classroom,the better the teaching effect.However,teachers rarely create more complex situations.They have less value and significance for situational teaching.They also lackin-depth study and exploration of theories and implementation methods.2.Use Spearman's correlation coefficient to calculate the correlation between the application of situational teaching in primary school English teaching and teaching effectiveness,sig value = 0.018,because <0.05,prove that these two are relevant,correlation coefficient =0.186,because> 0,so it is a positive correlation,that is,the higher the frequency of application of situational teaching in primary school English teaching,the better the classroom teaching effect.3 Through interviews with six teachers,the author summarizes the problems existing in the teaching of situational teaching in primary school English teaching,mainly relying on textbook content,lack of contextual material,selecting simple situations,escaping from complex situations,tending to objective situations,ignoring subjective emotions,and arduous teaching tasks.The specific implementation was blocked.Finally,according to the results of the study,the corresponding teaching strategies and suggestions are given: 1,primary school English teachers' awareness of innovation should be cultivated;2,Primary school English teachers' situational creation ability should be improved;3,Change the evaluation method of primary school English teachers.
