Under the impetus of nationl education reform,Situational Teaching has gained the great advacation in the field of education.Diffrent from the way of traditional teaching,through creating specific situations,Situational Teaching can motivate students' interest in learning,provide a special emotional experience for students and help students understand and construct knowledge by participating in teaching.Applying Situational Teaching to English class can create a real communication environment for students,which not only help students have a good command of English knowledge such as words,grammar more efficiently,but also improve students' ability of using English.To take full advantage of Situational Teaching and make it truly help students learning English well,the paper studies the status of English Situational Teaching in Junior Middle School,finds out existing problems,analyzes the reasons and proposes targeted improvement strategies in the end.This paper selects five middle schools in Xinxiang City,Henan Province and uses three research methods which are questionnaire investagation,classroom observation and interviews to systematically invesgate and analyze the status of English Situational Teaching in Junior Middle School.The investagation result reveals that English Situational Teaching in Junior Middle School has the following problems: Teachers don't have enough knowledge about Situational Teaching;The situation creation is not ideal;Students' expectations for Situational Teaching are diffrent from teachers' preference;The implementation effect of Situational Teaching is not so good.Aimming at the above problems,this paper gives a detailed analyzation about the reasons and on the basis proposes some strategies about how to improve Situational Teaching from two aspects of schools and teachers.The strategies form the aspect of schools include: Practicing the student-centered philosophy;Strengthening support for Situational Teaching.The strategies from the aspect of teachers include: Reinforing the study of Situational Teaching Theory;Reflecting the situation creation in time;Strengthening communication about situation creation with students;Motivating students to take part in Situational Teaching;Cultivating students' cooperative awareness and ability in Stuational Teaching;Establishing an equal teacher-student relationship;Improving the ability of organizing and managing Situational Teaching.
