Study On Poetry Anthology Preface In The Late Song Dynasty From The Pespective Of Literary Ecology

The number of poetry anthologies increased obviously since the middle of the Southern Song Dynasty.There has been a phenomenon that “each person has his poetry anthology and poems”.Up to the late Song Dynasty,striving for a preface with a poetry anthology has been prevailed.This Ganye activity of the large-scale group of scholars became a manifestation of the literary ecology at that time.As a special type of writing to connect poems and articles,the preface of the poetry anthology carries many poetics and literary activities of the society at that time.Meawhile,it also records the interpersonal interaction.It is an important document for examining social culture.This paper take nearly three hundred poetry anthology prefaces in the last Song Danasty as the object of the study,aims to restore the writing context of poetry anthology prefaces.Therefore,we can have a better understanding of the literary ecology of the time.The literary ecology of the late Song Dynasty presented the following three characteristics,which constituted the background of the poetry anthology prefaces writing.Firstly,the status of poetry in intellectual education is reduced,but the practical value is even more prominent.Secondly,the subject of poetry creation is no longer a pure “poet”,but a person of various identities.Thirdly,the division of scholars and the changes in lifestyle has further led to the complications of morality and poetry.Corresponding to this background,the writing content of poetry anthology prefaces has also changed.Compared with the previous generation,the poetry anthology prefaces in the last Song Danasty were more rewritten on the origin of the prefaces and the author of the poetry,but the interpretation of the works themselves and the poetic insights was so weak.From the information provided by the extant poetry anthology prefaces,the identity of poetry writers covers officials,monks,Taoist priests,and Jiang-hu poets.They strived for poetry anthology prefaces by the relationships among their friends,relatives,geopolitics,learning,etc.The specific way of striving for poetry anthology preface is affected by the affinity or the alienation.Friends often express their wishes in person or through letters,which is a regular form of communication among scholars.The methods of striving for prefaces that Ganye in person and introduced by people are often associated with more utilitarian purposes.In addition,the phenomenon that the descendants and grandchildren striving for prefaces is rather special,mostly due to the factors of filial piety and family honor.In general,the purpose of striving for prefaces is to pursue immortal poetry and seeking communication capital.Because it is tied to fame and fortune,there have been the phenomena of striving for prefaces many times and striving for prefaces to many people.Although these phenomena have their own origins,they did not arise in the late Song Dynasty.However,it was only during this period that they became accustomed to behaving in a fashionable manner.They were painfully added as a serious problem.From the perspective of the communication and evaluation after the writing of poetry anthology prefaces,the prefacer writers who were led by the scholar-bureau were either self-initiated or prescriptive.Under the social recognition of "The articles spread through the prefaces ",poetry anthology preface plays an important role in promoting the spread of poetry.Regarding the behavior of striving for prefaces and writing prefaces,there were criticisms of Ganye activities,and more dissatisfaction with people striving for prefaces,and also warnings against preface writers,and the former two are heavier.In a word,the investigation of the writing process of poetry anthology prefaces in the last Song Danasty involves the interlaced cultural subjects such as poetry authors,people striving for prefaces,preface writers,and readers.This article explores social phenomena and cultural connotations beyond texts through their interactions,making it a new starting point for exploring the literary ecology of the late Song Dynasty.At the same time,it also provides a new perspective for the studies on the literature and culture in the late Song Dynasty.
