This paper mainly discusses strategies and skills applied in the translation of the introduction of a political economy book A World of Struggle: How Power,Law,and Expertise Shape Global Political Economy based on Claude Shannon's Information Theory and Newmark's communicative translation theory.This book provides a unique insider's perspective on the complexity of global governance,reveals the role of expertise in political and economic life and how the expert rule influences global political economy.The selected source text introduces how the expertise operates and influences global political economy along with law and power.The source text is composed of concise words as well as complex and difficult sentences.Under the guidance of Information Theory and communicative translation theory,the translator hopes her translation can help readers have some knowledge of political economy.The text type of this source text is more of an informative text.A translator should take readers' channel,channel capacity and so on into consideration,put readers into the first place,and ensure readers to have a similar reading experience as the source text readers.In this project,the translator employs increasing redundancies in the target text,decreasing redundancies of the source text and converting sentence structures to facilitate readers' understanding.This paper consists of four parts:introduction to this project,analysis of the source text,difficulties in translation and solutions,and conclusion of this project.
