A Report On C-E Translation Of The Study Of The Southwest China Ethnics Dragon Culture(Excerpts)

The dragon boat competition in the Southwest China is the sport which contains a large amount of Chinese characteristics,and is an important part of the Chinese culture.This report chooses the sixth chapter “Dragons and the Boat Culture of the Southwest China Ethnics” of The Study of the Southwest China Ethnics Dragon Cultures as the original text,which was written by Professor Yang Zhenquan,a research scholar of the Southwest China Ethnics.The original text contains a large number of ethnic culture-loaded words with a strong ethnics culture ambience.The book has no English version at present.So the author chooses this book as the original text and completes the translation report based on the translation of it.According to the characteristics of plentiful culture-loaded words and strong exoticism of the original text,the author chooses the Culture Translation Theory of the British translation theorist Susan Bassnett as the theory guidance,following the translation strategy of “foreignization as first and domestication as second” and using translation methods such as transliteration,free translation,free translation with notes,and omission to solve the translation problems including the translation of the culture-loaded words,the classical Chinese expressions and the long and complex sentences.On the one hand,this translation study complements the study contents of the translation of minority culture literature.On the other hand,the author tries to let the target readers feel the foreignness,and meanwhile improves the target readers' understanding of the Chinese culture,and strengthens the influence and output of the Chinese culture.
