Large-scale international and regional conferences require high professional qualifications for on-site interpreters.On-site interpreting is characterized by timeliness and irrevocability. Therefore, whether the interpreter can accurately and clearly convey the speaker's communicative intention and meet the expectations of the target audience is regarded as an important criterion for evaluating the interpreting quality.Under the guidance of the Relevance Theory, the thesis conducted analysis on specific application of five translation variation methods of “addition, deletion, editing, combination and adaptation” in Chinese-English interpreting activity, regarding the opening ceremony speeches of the “Belt and Road” summit forum on international cooperation and the BRICKS cooperation at the BRICKS business forum as corpus delivered by the president Xi Jinping. Moreover, the application of different translation variation methods can supplement cognitive context of the target audience and expand the contextual effect of the source language to some extent, enabling interpreters to achieve optimal relevance between the speaker and the audience in interpreting with high pressure and limited time so as to achieve effective communication. This thesis hoped that more interpreters attach importance to the application of translation variation method in interpreting and participate in the study of it to produce more high-quality interpretation,in addition to mastering various translation variation methods in Chinese-English context to serve interpreting practice with more contributions on improving interpreting quality.
