Writing is a basic skill in English learning and an important way of communication for secondary vocational school students.English curriculum has set concrete goals for secondary vocational school students and all kinds of exams also require that students' writing level should reach its level.However,many students' writing level cannot reach the desired level and they still have many difficulties in English writing.Therefore,it is a very necessary and challenging task for teachers to help these students improve their English writing ability and motivate their interest in English writing.Cooperative learning is a kind of collaborative learning or is a way of learning through cooperation to achieve learning goals.Cooperative learning can improve the classroom environment,stimulate students' enthusiasm and improve the quality of class learning.The thesis is aimed at testing the effectiveness of this teaching method when it is applied to English writing classes in secondary vocational school,due to the importance of cooperative learning.An experiment based on the theories of cooperative learning is conducted in the thesis.The research questions of the experiment are shown as follows:1.Is cooperative learning more effective than traditional product approach in English writing teaching in vocational school?2.Can cooperative learning enhance students' interest and confidence in English writing in secondary vocational school?This thesis includes six chapters and the concrete structure is presented as follows:Chapter One is about introduction of this thesis.It consists of research background,the significance and purpose of the study and gives an overall structure of this thesis.Chapter Two is Literature review,which is made up of relevant researches abroad and at home.Chapter Three is about the theoretical basis of the research include Constructivism Theory,Social Interdependence,Theory of Motivation,Theory Group Dynamics Theory.Chapter Four is about methodology,it gives us a clear description about how this study is conducted.It presents research questions,research subjects,research instruments and research procedures.Besides,a sample lesson is included in this chapter.Chapter Five refers to data collection and discussion,which is the key part in this study.Results are given with SPSS19.0.Through the data analyses of this part,answers to the research questions naturally follow.Chapter Six is the conclusion of this thesis and it includes major findings,some pedagogical implications of the thesis and limitations of this study.It can be concluded from the results of the experiment that cooperative learning is more effective in improving the students' writing ability than traditional product approach.In addition,it also can be reflected from the results of questionnaire and interview that this teaching method can motivate students' learning interest in English writing and a lot of the students hold positive attitude towards cooperative learning.Though there are some limitations in this study,it is still expected that some findings of this thesis can be shared with the readers and some suggestions that were put forward by the teachers can be helpful for English teachers in their writing teaching classes.
