E-C Translation Strategies Of Parenthesis

The translation material of this article is THE ART of MONEY GETTING authored by P.T.Barnum.It offers entrepreneurs suggestions to help them avoid risks and to achieve success quickly.During the translation process,the writer noticed that many sentences of the text contain parentheses.The use of parentheses plays an important role in expressing semantic meanings and in converting sentence patterns.However,the various forms,flexible positions,and different semantic functions of parentheses make the analysis of the whole sentence more difficult.Therefore,to ensure a natural cohesion of the translation while maintain the original pragmatic function of parentheses is the main problem encountered in the translation process.This article hopes to improve the quality of the translation of parentheses by analyzing the structure and function of English parentheses and analyzing the methods that can realize a smooth cohesion in translation.This article mainly includes five parts: brief introduction to the translation project,translation process,parentheses and cohesion,case study,and summary.The first part is a brief description of the translation material,and a summary of the features of the text.Translation process explains the preparatory work before the translation,the main problems in the translation process,and the focus of the proofreading after the translation.The third part is an introduction to the definition,forms,positions,main pragmatic functions of parentheses,the definition of cohesion and the relation between cohesion and parentheses in terms of structure and meaning.Together with specific cases,the case study analyzes how cohesive devices,such as connectives,punctuation,word order,lexical cohesion,and repetition make the translation of parentheses more cohesive and smooth.The last part is a review and summary of this translation project.
