Speed reading means that the reader has achieved effective processing of the article within a short time. This study took fourth-grade primary school students as subjects, and through two experiments, explored the impact of extended reading based on speed reading training on pupils’reading efficiency. In the first experiment,102 primary school students from the fourth grade were selected as the subjects,54 in the experimental group and 48 in the control group. The single-factor experimental design was used to teach the "integrated reading method".After 9 weeks of training, the effect of speed reading training on pupils’ reading efficiency was examined.Studies have shown that the reading efficiency of the experimental group is significantly higher than that of the control group. At the same time, the reading efficiency of the experimental group under different subject narratives was significantly higher than that of the control group under different subject narratives. In the second experiment,26 primary school students in the fourth grade were selected as subjects,14 in the experimental group, and 12 in the control group.Using a single-factor experimental design,a Tobii 120 eye tracker was used to study pupils’ eye movement during reading.Throughout the article, there were significant differences in the Fixation Length,Fixation Count, and Reading Speed between the subjects in the experimental group and the control group, and the Fixation Length and Fixation Count in the experimental group were significantly less than those in the control group.the Reading Speed of the control group was significantly slower than that of the experimental group. In the subject passage, there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in Time to First Fixation,Fixation Length,Fixations Before and Reading Speed. The result of experiment 2 shows that students who have undergone speed reading training have improved eye movement patterns and improved reading efficiency.Through the above two experiments,it can be concluded that extracurricular extended reading based on speed reading training can effectively improve the pupils’ reading efficiency and improve the pupils’ eye movement patterns during reading.
