A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Sustainable Air Pollution Management:Theory And Practice

In recent years,with the development of industrialization and urbanization,most cities in China have been exposed to severe "haze",resulting in negative effects in people’s daily life.European countries and regions have made tremendous efforts to control air pollution in the course of industrialization,and have accumulated a great deal of valuable experience.Therefore Chinese translated texts of the air pollution on management will have some guidance function in air pollution control for China.The paper is a report on the E-C translation of the environmental engineering text book.The source material are the excerpts from Sustainable Air Pollution Management:Theory and Practice.Its Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 are the introduction of sustainable air pollution management in transportation sector and sustainable fuel management,which provides reference for the air pollution management of transportation sector and industries in our country.Through the analysis of the original text content and linguistic features,it is noticed that this text is belonged to informative text of science and technology,and its translation difficulties mainly lie in the accurate translation of the technical terms and semi-technical words,the conversion of the attribute clauses and passive sentences,and the processing of cohesion devices in textual translation.The translation practice report has employed the functional equivalence theory.At the lexical level,combined with the theory,literal translation,free translation and restructuring methods are applied to accomplish the accurate translation of the technical terms and semi-technical words.At sentence level,english passive sentences are converted into Chinese active sentences,determinative sentences,passive sentences and non-subjective sentences,which aims to find out the the closest natural equivalent language under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory,reaching the goal to convey the text content in an accuracy and smooth way.Also,inversion,division and conversion translation methods are used to translate the attributed clauses,making the translation material clear and logical.At discourse level,the lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion are adopted,which is natural in cohesion and appropriate in grammar,so as to achieve textual equivalence.
