This is a translation practice report on the excerpts from 3rd to 4th chapters of Teaching the Brain to Read.Judy Willis discusses the skills to help students learn to read and understand in the book through the analysis of how the brain deal with the written information,and at the same time provides teaching strategies that are of attraction and help for students.Chapter three and chapter four are respectively about reading fluency building and eliminating barriers to fluency.They correlate the neurological research pertaining to building verbal or oral fluency with teaching strategies applied in the classroom,and therefore enriching the way of teaching reading lessons.The original text belongs to informative text,and its language is logical and objective.Considering the content and the language feature of the text,the author chooses the semantic translation and communicative translation theory proposed by Newmark,as well as the relative theory of contrastive linguistics to guide the translation practice.For the problems in the translation process,such as translation of technical terms,change of word order,handling of passive sentences and complex sentences,the author tries to use the translation skills including addition,reverse translation and division and so on to make the translation version smooth and fluent,as a result,making it of readability and academic style.After the completion of translation practice,the author has not only a new summary of her own shortcomings and efforts direction,but also a further understanding of relevant translation theories and techniques,more importantly,a deep understanding of the translation process and the quality of translators.At the end of the article,some points remain to be settled are put forwarded so as to direct future practice. |
