The Narrative Characteristic And Creative Practices Of Serial Murals

The main purpose of serial murals is narration and the narrative feature makes the plot of the story have continuity.Dunhuang series frescoes have many kinds of forms and their narrative thinking is dynamic and changeable,which provides a lot of reference space for the creation of the serial frescoes.This thesis aims to analyze the narrative characteristics of serial murals and also both types and generalizes the important aspects of serial murals,including arrangements for narrative order,cohesions of narrative scenes,processing of picture order and character shaping,etc.In this process,I will combine illustration on them with typical examples and my graduation creation "dayu mountain",in order to discuss how to realize a better combination of the narrative characteristics and painting in serial murals.
