The source text of this translation report is Chapter 8 of the book: The Development of Thinking and Learning in the Age of Information written by Balu H.Athreya and Chrystalla Mouza.Chapter 8 mainly refers to the illustration of strategies and accompanied digital tools that help learners think and avoid shortfalls in thinking.It begins by presenting some of the most well-known programs developed in the past years to help learners acquire critical thinking skills,and it then offers strategies and tools that can be utilized in both formal and informal settings to develop critical thinking.Translation of this book may enable Chinese readers to learn about the state of knowledge related to thinking and technology and acquire strategies for cultivating thinking skills.It is of great significance to helping Chinese readers develop good thinking skills and avoid common errors in thinking.This translation report consists of five parts.The first part gives a brief introduction to translation project,including its background,significance and structure.The second part mainly introduces the authors and the main content of the original text.According to text typology of Katharina Reiss,the source text is analyzed by the translator who comes to the conclusion that it is informative text.The third part focuses on illustrating communicative translation theory and explaining the application of this theory.The fourth part elaborates on the key and difficult points in the process of translation and their corresponding solutions.It includes the solutions to difficulties on lexical translation which contains translation techniques in translating some proper nouns,terminology and preposition and solutions to difficulties on syntactic level whichincludes the sentence with multiple modifier,the sentence in passive voice and the sentence with implied negation.The final part summarizes the whole translation project and shows the lessons learned and problems unsolved.
