The Application Of Theme-rheme Theory In The Translation Of CVN Flight/ Hangar Deck NATOPS MANUAL

With the development of technology,as one of the most important languages in the communication of scientific activities,English plays a very important role.Recent years,there are many studies on how to translate the technical texts into target language and express its information accurately and smoothly.Based on the theme-rheme theory,this paper aims to find a better way in the EST translation.The theme-rheme theory is proposed by Halliday.As one part of textual analysis,theme-rheme theory plays a significant role in the analysis and comprehension of English text.With the analysis of the theme and rheme,we can convey the information to target readers and explain the relationships between clauses in the text.According to the analysis of the text CVN Flight/ Hangar Deck NATOPS MANUAL we find that not all of the theme and rheme need to be transformed.This paper discusses it from two aspects:one is to change the theme-rheme and the other one is to retain the theme-rheme.From the translation of typical sentences,we find that we can change it flexibly to be accorded with the different habits in talking and thinking of Chinese and English in different sentences.We hope to do better in the following translation through the summary of this translation project.
