As a transferring progress, translation must deal with deconstruct the source text and reconstruct the target text, which is the progress of spannig language and culture. Traditional translation remains the stage of studying the difference of two languages' words, sentences, and phrases, which breaks away from the source language circumstance and the cohesive discource. So at last it breaks away the source language. In the progress of translation, in order to make a sentence or a unit clearer or more correct, provide a better understanding of the text and echo the source language. the writer tries to dig out the relationship between Functional Linguistics' Theme-Rheme theory and translation in order to enrich skills of practical application. which is very important for how to understand the source language correctly and for the progression in cohesive discourse.Theme-Rheme theory is an essetial part of Textual Linguistics. Theme and Rheme were put forward by Czech linguist Mathesius in 1939, which aims to study how different elements in a sentence exert different functions. He found the first element in a sentence has a special function, namely the starting-point of the message. He defined it as Theme and the following parts of Rheme. The systematic functional lunguistic school, represented by Halliday, accepted by this pair of terms, and then calssified them further as well as had some new viewpoints.Writer divides this thesis into five parts: in part one, the basis Theme-Rheme theory is introduced concerning its history, development and some fundamental concepts. In part two, writer state the difference patterns between English and Chinese and the two languages' Theme-Rheme stuctrue and translation. In chapter there, the writer shows the Theme-Rheme theory apply in the single sentence and the progression in the poem sentence, which proved that the poem's Theme-Rheme structure has a profound effect on mutual translation. In chapter four, the writer puts theory into translation of the poems of discourses, which also needs Theme-Rheme structure as basic unit. In chapter five, the writer shows the Theme-Rheme theory'limitation in Chinese English poem' mutual translation.Above all, the Application of fonctional linguistics'Theme-Rheme theory has a profound effect on Chinese English poem' mutual translation.
