As a small private publishing house in the late Qing Dynasty, the Gailiang Press was located in Shanghai. The time of the press was around 1907,and the publishing activity was basically stopped in 1911.The 1908-1911 four-year period was the peak of its activities.Although it was only a short period of four years, its contribution to the literary scene in the late Qing Dynasty still deserves our attention. The information provided by the principal of the Gailiang Press is currently unknown. We can see the aim of the company's "improving the society and promoting ventilation." The press is more aware of copyright and communication awareness and will use a variety of promotional means to increase sales. The press's works rely on solicitation, and other publishers' books will also be published in the previous period. In terms of distribution,it sometimes acts as a point of sale and consignment for other book clubs, but it is also constantly expanding its sales network.Through the study of his writer group,I found that the authors of the Gailiang Press mainly came from Shanghai and Jiangsu.Writers have a variety of relationships.Apart fronrgeographical similarities, they also have various other-connections.In the-group of writers of the Gailiang Press,Lu Shi'e has created the most works, with the highest quality and the most varied types.Lu Shi'e played an important role in the development of the Gailiang Press. The works of the Gailiang Press not only showed us the reality of the late Qing Dynasty, but also showed us the "fantasy" of the authors of the Gailiang Press. In these works, the political positions of the writers are all enshrined, and to some extent also reflect the political position of the Gailiang Press. The Gailiang Press has the following features in the overall characteristics of the published works.First, the number of novels written by oneself has increased, and translation novels have decreased.Second, there are a large number of novels beginning with the name of "new",which contain a large number of refurbished novels.Third, the types of novels are relatively complete.Among them, the number of "social novels" is the largest. In short, although the scale of the Gailiang Press is not large, the characteristics of the writer group and the way it was founded are relatively representative of the private publishing institutions in the late Qing Dynasty. The works of the Gailiang Press also reflect the development of the times and the changes of culture, and to a certain extent promoted the prosperity of the literary world in the late Qing Dynasty and social progress.
