This paper is a translation practice report on Technical guidance for Prioritizing Adolescent Health. The source text is a publication selected from the official website of United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA).It is a technical guidance document, which aims to introduce adolescents' health problems in the current situation.During the translation process, guided by Peter Newmark's Text Typology Theory, the translator adopts semantic translation and communicative translation methods to deal with problems at different language levels,in order to realize the function of the source text and achieve the purpose of effective communication. This report consists of five parts. The first part makes a brief introduction to the task description, including the background, task, significance as well as the overall structure of the report. The second part is the process description. It mainly elaborates the three stages of a translation process, which includes preparations before translation, the process of translation, and the proofreading after translation.Only when sufficient pre-translation preparation is made, can the translation process be carried out smoothly. The after-translation process can be seen as a further quality control,so as to facilitate the subsequent analysis of the translation. The third part presents the theoretical framework of this report. The translator elaborates the Text Typology Theory proposed by Peter Newmark in a comprehensive way,and takes it as the guiding theory of this report. On the basis of the three language functions,Newmark believes that text type can be classified into expressive text type, informative text type and vocative text type accordingly. Moreover,in order to realize the function of the source text in a better way,Newmark puts forward semantic translation and communicative translation methods.Semantic translation focuses on the semantic content of the source text, which is more suitable for the expressive text. While communicative translation focuses on the understanding and response of the target readers, and is more suitable for the informative text and vocative text. The forth part is case analysis. In this part, the translator puts Peter Newmark's Text Typology Theory into application. This part consists of two sections. The first section makes a detailed text analysis of the source text, while the second section analyzes translation methods and techniques applied at different language levels so as to tackle with problems the translator came across during the translation process. The fifth part is conclusion. The translator makes summaries of the major findings and limitations of this translation practice, and provides some useful suggestions for further study as well. The research result proves that Text Typology Theory not only enables the translator to analyze the text type from a macro perspective, but also can guide the translation practice from a micro perspective, which is of great significance in English-Chinese translation practice.
