| This translation practice report is based on the translation of the first nine chapters of A Little Book of Language written by David Crystal.This is an elementary reading material of Applied Linguistics for English major students and people interested in Linguistics.This report mainly introduces analysis of the linguistic style of the original text before the translation,translation theories and strategies employed in the translation,difficult and key points in the translation,and reflection after the translation.Linguistic style of the original text is analyzed from the point of vocabulary,syntax,register.In case analysis,typical cases are selected from aspects like linguistic and medical terms,specialized common words,sentence structure,graphs.Literal translation,annotation,non-translation,conversion of words’ meaning,combination are used under the guidance Text Typology Theory to deal with the difficult and key points in the translation.Through this translation task,the translator gets a deeper understanding of the practical usage of Newmark’s Text Typology Theory in translation.At the same time,the translator realizes the importance of professional knowledge reserve in the translation of academic texts.This translation task is a valuable experience for the translator. |
