This is a report on translating Myth 3 of Criminal: the Truth about Why People Do Bad Things written by Tom Gash.The source text exposes the truth about criminals and crimes through a number of studies and researches.Chapter 3introduces that those who are vulnerable to temptation under more stressful circumstances,appear to commit a crime.As it is an informative text,the author of the report analyzes its linguistic features and translates the text under the guidance of text typology proposed by Katherina Reiss.During the translation of the source text,the author of the report has encountered many translating difficulties such as legal terms,special legal concepts in Western countries,and sentence patterns that are challenging to be translated from English to Chinese,especially passive sentence.Targeting at passive sentences,the author of the report puts forward three solutions: keeping the original sentence pattern;translating them into active sentences;combining the two methods.Through the report,the author of the report expects that readers will understand causes of crimes and figure out effective solutions.
