A Translation Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Syntactic Passive Sentences Of Classification Approval Document Based On The Theory Of Peter Newmark

In recent years,the sci-tech revolution and industrial transformation has witnessed the development of economic globalization.The regional agglomeration of various links of China’s industrial chain has become the inevitable trend of industrial development,which puts forward higher requirements for the translation quality of standard documents.Taking Steel Classification Approval Document as a case study,the report analyses the translation methods of syntactic passive sentences in the light of Peter Newmark’s translation theory.In the study of specific translation practice,the report takes semantic translation and communicative translation theory as theoretical guidance.By observing the passive voice sentences in the text,the report classifies the passive sentences into two types on the basis of “the existence of agent(doer of an action)” to explore the translation method.The passive sentences with agents can be translated into Chinese by retaining the agents,or they can be translated into explicit passive voice sentence in Chinese.For the processing of passive sentences without any agent,the Chinese translation can be carried out by keeping the getter as the subject,transforming the original sentences into a subjectless sentence or a general subject sentence.Newmark’s translation theory provides guidance on translation thought and methodology for this practice from both macro-text analysis and micro-sentence practice.
