| This is a translation report of an academic paper titled Regional Pblic Goods in the Blue Economy:Lessons from 14 Cases of International Cooperation(Excerpt).Blue economy is a newly emerging topic of academic interest;many materials especially academic works on this issue need to be translated. The academic paper is a formal writing that covers several disciplines such as economics, politics, and oceanography. The translator finds it challenging to render the exact contextual meaning of the original in such a way that both content and language are readily acceptable and comprehensible to the readership. The report therefore probes into the difficulties in achieving both loyalty and fluency. The translator discusses the application of semantic translation and communicative translation under the guide of Text Typology of Peter Newmark with cases study analyzing the difficulties from the levels of lexis, syntax and discourse respectively. On lexical level, terms translation, contextualization of common words and specification of pronouns are discussed;on syntactic level, shift of voice, clarification of information-loaded statistics in parentheses and reconstruction of complex sentence are applied;on discourse level, comparative referencing, conjunction and coherence are investigated.Through the exploration, the translator attempts to find solutions with the hope of providing insights,if any, into how to achieve better translations of academic paper in the future. |
