Chinese national and folk music,associated with its traditional cultures and folk customs in thousands of years of history and humanities,includes various kinds and distinctive styles of melody from 56 ethnic groups.To maintain the unique aesthetic of our country’s ethnic cultures,modern and contemporary composers stress on the usage of traditional folk music vocabulary,the coordination of the internal audit,and the integration of the elements from local cultures and the western forms of techniques when utilizing modern compositional techniques.A vast number of new Chinese symphony works originated in national and folk music emerged from the late 1980 s.As a student majored in the composing of Chinese folk music,the author focuses on exploring the application of the modern compositional techniques in the traditional folk music.The author went to the country area around the China to collect folk songs and learn popular customs when she was an undergraduate.The culture from western region of China deeply attracted her during her stay in Xinjiang in company of the department of graduate studies.After returning to Shanghai,she conducted a further research on Uighur folk music and the musical form and features of Muqam.Besides it,she analyzed several pieces of modern music works adopting the elements of Uyghur folk music and wrote the new national orchestral piece “Huang·Ji”(meaning ruins in English),which applied the typical local music elements such as vocabulary,rhythm,and the amplitude and color of the sound.The work of the cello concerto “the impression on Muqam” based on Muqam wrote by Professor Yang Liqing is an excellent model of the integration of national and folk music and the modern music composition in the aspect of both the exploring and implantation of Muqam and the combination of modern new sound techniques.This article consists of three sections.The first section briefly summarizes the characteristics and features of national music in the Uygur region of Xinjiang.In the second section,the author will dissect the work of “Impression on Muqam” from four aspects: structures and forms,the theme and topic,rhythm and the amplitude and color of the sound.In the third section,the author will introduce the impact of “Impression on Muqam” on her own composition and manifest the significance of traditional folk music in Chinese contemporary works through the analysis of the usage of the Uyghur folk music and influence on her work “Huang·Ji” in the “Impression on Muqam”...
