With the prosperity of China's economy and the acceleration of globalization, the development of construction engineering field has become an important part of national economic development.Today's social science and technology are changing with each passing day and engineering construction is developing rapidly in our country. The rising translation career has promoted close contacts between countries.People have paid more and more attention to the translation of engineering materials because they need to understand the information of internationally-advanced engineering construction through engineering translation. This translation practice report is based on the translator's translation task during the internship in Gansu Jiantou Construction Co.,Ltd.,that is,the translation of building materials. With Skopos theory as the guiding theory, following three principles “skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule” and combining numerous lexical and syntactic examples, the author has pointed out the difficulties encountered in this translation practice and taken in-depth analysis to this translation task. The report is divided into five chapters: Chapter One is the introduction, where the research background has been emphasized, engineering text has been classified and the significance of engaging in engineering text translation has been pointed out.Chapter Two is the task description, where original text has been analyzed and the entrusting party's requirements have been elaborated.Chapter Three is the translation process. It has been described from pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.In the pre-translation section, the author has prepared the background knowledge and looked up Baidu,Wikipedia and other network resources; In addition, the author has made preparations for the translation tools and resources, including paper translation tools and resources, electronic translation tools and resources; The author selected two parallel texts: one is from the article entitled “Commissioning” in Translation Comparison and True-False and the other from the article entitled “Modern Architecture and Structural Materials” in Engineering Translation Textbook; In translation theory, the author chose Skopos theory as guiding theory; The author also worked out translation plan and presented it in the tabular format. Finally, the author produced glossary of terms. In the in-translation part, the author elaborated the quality control, that is,the translation quality is specifically instructed and reviewed by senior translators; Moreover, the translator described the translation process, including the first draft, revision, and finalization. In the post-translation part,self-evaluation,peer evaluation and entrusting party evaluation are taken to the translation.Chapter Four is the case analysis. The author applied three principles of Skopos theory to analyze the difficult points of translation.ChapterFive is the conclusion. The author thought about the unsolved issued and elaborated the enlightenment and prospects for future learning. The three principles of Skopos theory have good guiding function in the translation of engineering texts and they play an important role in ensuring the translation quality. The author realized that the points he needs to improve is reflected in both theory and practice. In theory, although the author has already had preliminary study on various translation theories in the course,in-depth research had not been taken. In practice, although the translator has completed the translation requirements, there is still a certain distance from mastering the translation skills proficiently.Through this translation practice, the translator has deeply realized that extensive knowledge is essential for good translation. The author has summarized the translation experience and deficiencies, hoping to enlighten other translators while translating similar texts.
