Under the background of increasing energy shortage,producing energy-saving and environment-friendly products has become the development direction in every industry.In construction industry,building energy construction has aroused the widespread concern of the government and society.The technology and quality of China’s major building materials products are close to or have reached the world level.However,there is still a gap between China and developed countries in material varieties,supporting capacity,resource recycling and environmental protection.This gap will affect China’s competitiveness in the international market.“Thermal Transport in Building Materials” is an academic paper published in Construction and Building Materials.This paper mainly introduces the properties of thermal conduction and other related properties of building materials.This translation practice report is divided into four chapters.Chapter one introduces the background and significance of the author’s selection of the source text.The author believes that under the environment of China’s advocating building energy conservation,the translation of this architectural text can bring references for the researchers in the field of building materials.Chapter two first describes the use of paper dictionary and network tools and the choice of translation theory.Secondly,it introduces the translation process,including the understanding of the source text and the expression of the target text.Then,the author introduces the difficulties encountered in the translation process,including fewer parallel texts,a wide range of specialized words in the source text and the complexity of translating long and difficult sentences.Finally,it discusses the polishing and proofreading of the translation from two aspects:self-proofreading and professional proofreading.Chapter three analyzes the representative cases in this translation practice from three levels: vocabulary,syntax and discourse.In the translation process,the author translates with the help of several techniques such as amplification,omission,division and inversion.The whole translation is finished under the guidance of Skopos theory.The author follows fidelity rule in the translation at the vocabulary level,adopts Skopos rule in the translation at the syntax level,and applies coherence rule in the translation at the discourse level.Chapter four summarizes the author’s experience gained from this translation practice and offers some suggestions for future translation work.The author realizes that if the translator wants to do a good job in translation,she should make full preparation before translation,choose proper translation theory and possess excellent comprehensive qualities.In the future translation practice,the author hopes to learn more translation theories and applies more translation methods and techniques.Through this translation practice,the author has learned expertise knowledge in the field of building materials and has gained a deeper understanding of the translation of engineering texts.The author hopes to provide references for the architects and engineers in the field of building materials,and provide translators with translation methods and techniques to deal with the same type of building engineering texts.
